The International Center offers language classes for adults at levels beginning through advanced. Spring term classes start at the end of March, and run for eight weeks. Regular classes meet once a week for 60 or 90 minutes. Intensives meet twice a week for a total of three hours each week for 10 weeks. Language classes run with a minimum of three and a maximum of 15 students per class.

Tuition:

-Regular language classes, $50 for members, $70 for non-members.*
-Intensive classes. $250 for members, $270 for non-members.*
-Conversation Clubs. Free to all members.

*Non-member registration includes a complimentary 2012 membership to the International Center.

Class Schedule

Arabic, Beginner (AR1 11/4). An introduction to Arabic, including basic vocabulary and introductory grammar. No previous Arabic experience required. Thursdays 2-3:30pm, March 29 through May 24. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

Chinese, Beginner (CH1 11/4). Focuses on the development of listening, speaking, and reading skills in Mandarin Chinese. Mondays 9:45-10:45am, March 26 through May 21. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

English Conversation Club. Open to all members who want to enhance their English conversation skills. Wednesdays, 9:45-11:30am. Ongoing. No registration required.

English, Intensive (Beginner) (EI1 11/4). This course is designed for beginners, i.e. for students who do not already speak or understand English. It requires intensive study and is taught by a certified English teacher. Tuesdays & Thursdays 12:15-1:45pm. April 10 through June 14. Upstairs Classroom. Register here.

English, Intensive (Intermediate) (EI2 11/4). One of our most popular courses. Our English Intensive class is the fastest way to better your English. This class is a structured study program with a course book taught by a certified English teacher. Tuesdays & Thursdays 10:30am-12:00noon, April 10 through June 14. Upstairs classroom. Register here. French, Basic Beginner (FR0 11/4). An introduction to French, including basic vocabulary and introductory grammar. No previous French experience required. Mondays 12:30-2:00pm, March 19 through May 14. Downstairs, Main Hall. Register here.

French, Beginner (FR1 11/4). This course is designed for students who have already studied some elementary French. Students will develop their understanding of grammar and useful expressions and phrases in order to achieve intermediate proficiency. Mondays 1-2:00pm, March 19 through May 14. Downstairs, Main Hall. French, Intermediate (FR2 11/4). This class will build on students’ French listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Lessons will target language skills based on student needs. Mondays 11:00am-12:00noon, March 26 through May 21. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

French, Conversation (FR3 11/4). An advanced course that is intended for students who already have an intermediate competency in French. It aims to further develop students’ audio-lingual proficiency. Mondays 5:30-7:00pm, March 19 through May 14. Downstairs, Main Hall. Register here.

German, Beginner (GE1 11/4). The content of this course includes pronunciation, speaking skills, listening practice, and reading and writing. Upon completion of this course, students should have acquired essential grammar and a basic vocabulary. Wednesdays 12:30-1:30pm, March 28 through May 23. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

German, Intermediate (GE2 11/4). In this course, students will develop their understanding of basic grammar, and useful expressions and phrases in German, beyond the elementary German level. Thursdays 4:45-6:15pm, March 29 through May 24. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

German, Conversation (GE3 11/4).  An advanced course during which you can practice your German conversation and build your vocabulary. Thursdays 12:00noon-1:30pm, March 29 through May 24. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

Italian, Conversation (IT4 11/4). An advanced course in which content focuses on oral communication skills, i.e., listening and speaking in Italian. Wednesdays 10:30am-12:00noon, March 28 through May 23. Downstairs, Main Hall. Register here.

POSTPONED FOR TWO WEEKS - Portuguese, Beginner (PO1 11/4). Students will master the basic expressions and phrases necessary in daily communication in Portuguese. Tuesdays 6-7:00pm, March 27 (WILL NOW START APRIL 10) through May 22. Upstairs Classroom. Register here.

Spanish, Beginner (SP1 11/4). After completing this course, students will be able to communicate on a basic level in Spanish. Wednesdays 6-7:00pm, March 28 through May 23. Downstairs Classroom. Register here.

Spanish Conversation Club. Open to all members who want to enhance their Spanish conversation skills. Tuesdays, 6-7:00pm. Ongoing. No registration required.

Spanish, Intensive (Beginner) (SI1 11/4). If you’re new to Spanish, our intensive Spanish beginner course is a great way to improve your Spanish in a short period of time. The more exposure you have to Spanish, the better your Spanish learning will be. You can expect plenty of confidence-building speaking-practice and exercises delivered in a fun and effective way by a dedicated teacher. Mondays & Wednesdays 2-3:30pm, April 9 through June 18. Spanish, Intensive (Intermediate) (SI2 11/4). Take your Spanish to the next level. This class incorporates listening, speaking, vocabulary and grammar to give students opportunities to hone their Spanish skills. Because class size is small, each student receives personal attention and encouragement. Mondays & Wednesdays 7-8:30pm, April 9 through June 18. Upstairs Classroom. Register here.

Language Class Policies

Membership Required. All our language classes and conversation clubs require membership to the International Center. If you are not a member, your initial non-member registration fee includes your membership.

Visiting Classes. You are welcome to visit any of our classes or conversation clubs to see if you would like to enroll. We ask that you enroll on or before your second visit.

Refunds and Pro-rating Fees. Class fees are non-refundable and will not be pro-rated. However, you can transfer your class fee to another class or person before the start of the class session.

Holidays and Time Off. Generally we do not hold classes on federal holidays or Greenville County School vacation days. Please ask your teach about your classes’ schedule. This term, there will be no classes or conversation clubs during the following times:

- Greenville County School’s spring break which is from Monday , April 2 through Friday, April  6.
- Memorial Day which is Monday, May 28.
